C1|W4 Resources 2015

Week 4 I totally looked like a crazy lady I know! I’m sorry! LOL
I forgot makeup, my hair was in a crazy bun on the top of my head and then the SILLY SOCKS topped it off! But hey it was silly sock day so I fit right in… right?!
We had another great week at CC Community Day. We love seeing our friends and learning together! The CC families that we have gotten to know over the years really are special to us!!! We have done Classical Conversations in three different states (Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama) and it’s probably the only thing my kids know that we will be doing no matter where we are! They ask, “When do we go back to CC?” no matter if we are driving home from CC that day or it’s on a break and weeks away, they LOVE CC!
Remember CC has a great APP that you can get from iTunes and its worth the $$$ Get it Here! Seriously this in my Foundations Guide on the GO! And we are always on the go!
To be honest... PinterestI have lots of resources pinned on my Pinterest Boards.
Check out CC Cycle 1 Week 4 Here!
Here is a little recap of what we went over in class yesterday… you should totally look into Classical Conversations in your area!
Geography: We learned about the Hittite Empire
I liked to learn the geography in order of where it is on the map and not the way it is listed in our Foundations Guide. So this week I taught it in this order:
Asia Minor, Turkey, Hattusa/Hatti, Cyprus, Arabian Desert
*However after looking a little more into the geography (what we get to do at the house) Hattusa was the Ancient Capital city of the Hittite Empire, which it’s ruins is located near modern day (Boğazkale) Turkey. And Asia Minor is the westernmost protrusion of Asia, comprising the majority of the Republic of Turkey. (I hope this helps some.)
*Remember to practice maps at home! The map for week 4 is on pg 217 & 223  in your CC Foundations Guide
We are using this kind of paper to trace our maps at home. It comes in a big roll and I just cut off what I need but you could use anything or just . The girls love it, but you could also just color and label maps too!
Remember I won’t be doing the motions in class because I don’t know the official cc ones… I know a different set, and many others only want to use ASL signs and not some of the official CC motions so I’m just making it easier and not teaching any in class… feel free to do WHATEVER you want at home!!! That’s why CC ROCKS!
Here is the link to the timeline motions on CCConnected or what we all call C3  –> CC Timeline Signs and Motions it will only allow you to log in and see this info if you are a member. Membership is $6 a month if you are a member of a community (another reason to join one) and you could just join for one month and then cancel. Also they have all the songs off the memory cd’s on here that you can download before Oct. 1
We are creating a timeline it of that roll of tracing paper to help the girls see that these events happened in an order and we are adding things we learn to the timeline so they can see how they relate to other events going on! It’s really neat for them and for me. I love how CC redeems my education too!
History: Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (So go look these up!!! Really Cool!)
Motions we all came up with in class were:
Pyramids: both arms above head & make a triangle
Hanging Gardens: put both arms out in front of body and make an equals signs = then let the bottom arm hanging off of the other hand  7 (if that makes any sense?)
Temple of Artemis: Act like your shooting a Bow and Arrow
Statue of Zeus: Place a Crown on your head
Mausoleum: Trace a square building out in front of you
Pharos Lighthouse: Swirl an arm above your head like a lighthouse house would do
Colossus of Rhodes: take that same hand above head a make a fist in the air (like the statue does) and the other hand on the your hip
English: Prepositions … haha it’s a workout!
We will be learning this version of the preposition song over the next weeks! FUN! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/196047389999726320/ BUT with a few changes! Maybe I’ll post a video of us doing our version of the preposition song… HA we shall see! There isn’t a right or wrong way to do motions to this song! LET ME REPEAT THAT!!!! There isn’t a right or wrong way to do motions to this song!!!! We need to make sure we are focusing on the actual prepositions and NOT the motions!!! Have fun with it but don’t stress about the motions!!!
Latin: 1st Declension Noun Endings, here is a great blog I came across Suzanne Shares and she has created a Latin packet for all of the cycles of cc. Each week she has a little packet to work on with VISUALS! So helpful!
Math: Skip Counting the 7’s (Ferere Jaqca) and 8’s (Happy and You Know It)
Science: Plant Cell, plant cell has 2 more than animal. There are a ton of color sheets out there (and on my pinterest board for week 4) to color and learn the parts.
Fine Arts: Abstract Art
Here is the book I use in class “Drawing With Children”. The first week we learned our 5 basic shapes of OiLs and  how you can draw ANYTHING with these shapes! I think this was hard for the kids to grasp, which is funny! I have an Abstract pinterest board to do some fun work at home. We didn’t get much time to work on this in class so let the kids finish up their work from class while you get some quite time to yourself 😉
Hands on Science: We use this book VanCleave’s 201 Awesome, Magical, Bizarre & Incredible Experiments in class. This week we learned about Pollution and WOW a small drop can have a HUGE effect!

Presentations: Next week’s (week 5) will be a “You’re The Teacher” day in topic and focus on speaking loud while presenting! Speak loud enough for everyone to hear you and use good expressions.

We went way over our allotted time for presentations this week… OOPS! So we need to make sure when we come back from science project that we get our presentation out and ready to go along with our snacks! Remember we also only have about 3 mins to present so lets also work on keeping our time down.

I love hearing what the kids have to say! Presentations are one of my favorite parts of the day! The kids are doing awesome!

What do you like about CC day?

I would love to hear from you!
