An invitation to slow down, look a little closer, and capture the moments that make autumn worth remembering.
There’s something about fall that makes me want to take more pictures.
Maybe it’s the way the afternoon sunlight turns everything golden. The first few leaves scattered across the driveway. Pumpkins on the porch. Or the way an ordinary Tuesday afternoon suddenly looks like something worth remembering.
I love beautiful photographs. I love the perfectly styled fall porches, the cozy kitchens, and the winding roads lined with colorful trees.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about all the moments we don’t photograph. The photos I used to take but somewhere along the way stopped capturing.
The kitchen counter covered in ingredients for a meal we’re making together. The shoes piled by the back door after an afternoon outside. A child collecting leaves like they’re the most valuable treasures in the world.
The everyday things.
Things that might not look particularly special right now but will probably mean everything to us someday.
And that’s what inspired this little fall photo challenge.
A Different Kind of Fall Photo Challenge
This isn’t about taking the perfect photograph.
You don’t need a professional camera, an expensive editing app, or a beautifully decorated home.
You don’t even need to leave your neighborhood.
All you need is your phone, a little curiosity, and a willingness to pay attention to the things you might normally walk right past.
For the next 30 days, I want to challenge you to take one photograph a day.
Some days the prompt will encourage you to get outside. Other days it might have you looking around your home or noticing something about the people you love.
And some days, you might discover that the most beautiful thing worth photographing is something you’ve seen a hundred times before.
Why I Love the Idea of Photographing Ordinary Life
We take pictures of the big things.
Birthdays. Vacations. Holidays. First days of school. Special occasions.
And we should.
But what about everything that happens in between?
The ordinary mornings. The messy kitchens. The familiar places. The little routines that make up most of our lives.
I think there’s something beautiful about documenting those things, too.
Because one day, the ordinary details of our lives will be the things we wish we could see just one more time.
The view from the kitchen window. The way our children looked curled up on the couch. The house we lived in. The places we walked. The things that made us laugh.
Photographs have a way of bringing us back to moments we didn’t realize we would miss.
And I don’t want to spend so much time waiting for something extraordinary that I forget to notice what’s already here.

The 30-Day Fall Photo Challenge
I’ve put together 30 simple prompts to help you capture autumn through your own eyes.
You’ll find some traditional fall favorites, like colorful leaves and cozy drinks, mixed with prompts that encourage you to look a little deeper.
Things like something that feels like home, a moment of quiet, or something beautiful you almost missed.
The idea isn’t to make your life look like someone else’s.
It’s to tell the story of your own season.
Here’s how to participate:
- Download or save the 30-day photo challenge checklist.
- Take one photograph each day inspired by the prompt.
- Interpret each prompt however you like. There’s no right or wrong way.
- Share your favorites on Instagram, or keep them just for yourself.
- At the end of the challenge, look back at the little collection of moments you’ve captured.
And if you miss a day? Pick up where you left off.
We’re not turning something enjoyable into another thing to feel behind on.
A Few Ideas for Making Your Photos More Meaningful
You don’t have to do anything special with the pictures you take, but I love the idea of turning them into something you can revisit.
You could create a little autumn photo album on your phone, print your favorite photographs for a journal, or make a simple collage of the season.
You could even choose a few photographs and write a sentence or two about the story behind them.
Where were you? Who was with you? What made that particular moment worth remembering?
Sometimes the photograph tells the story.
And sometimes it’s the little details behind it that matter most.
The Beauty Was There All Along
I think that’s what I love most about this challenge.
It gives us a reason to pay attention.
To notice the sunlight coming through the windows. The familiar faces around our tables. The changing colors outside. Little moments we might otherwise miss.
Not every day is beautiful in an obvious way.
Some days are messy, some are exhausting, some feel so ordinary that we hardly remember them by the time we climb into bed.
But even those days have moments worth keeping.
Maybe that’s the real challenge.
Not to find 30 perfect photographs, but to spend 30 days looking for the beauty that’s already there.
So grab your phone or your camera, step outside, and start noticing.
I’d love to see autumn through your eyes.

And tell me in the comments: What’s one little thing about fall that you always look forward to?
The ashes. The after. The beauty. The in between.
