School Morning Chaos Starts Before the Sun Comes Up
Can someone please explain to me why I have to wake up at 5:00 in the morning for a school I am not even enrolled in?
I don’t have a single class to attend, don’t have homework and I don’t have a test to study for.
There is no teacher expecting me to show up.
AND YET, SOMEHOW, I’M THE ONE WITH THE MOST RESPONSIBILITIES.
Isn’t it funny how mom life is?!
My alarm goes off before the sun has even considered making an appearance.
Meanwhile, the actual students are upstairs sleeping peacefully like they don’t have a care in the world.
Getting Kids Ready for School Should Be an Olympic Sport
By 6:30 a.m., I’ve already worked an entire shift…. if I woke up on time.
I’ve made breakfast, packed lunches, located missing shoes, signed papers that apparently needed to be signed three days ago, and reminded someone to brush their teeth approximately 47 times.
Also fielding questions like:
“Where’s my backpack?”
“Do I have to go today?”
“Have you seen my hoodie?”
“What’s for breakfast?”
And my personal favorite…
“Why are you yelling?”
BECAUSE WE HAVE SEVEN MINUTES TO LEAVE AND YOU’RE STILL WEARING PAJAMA PANTS.
The Morning Meltdowns (And I’m Not Just Talking About the Kids)
Then there’s the emotional support portion of my morning.
Someone doesn’t like their hair.
Someone can’t find their favorite socks.
Someone suddenly remembers they need a poster board, 24 cupcakes, and a historically accurate costume of Abraham Lincoln.
TODAY.
And somehow, everyone is shocked that I’m a little stressed.
Mom Life Is a Full-Time Job Without a Paycheck
By the time I finally get everyone out the door, I’ve negotiated more conflicts than a United Nations diplomat, run a small restaurant, operated a transportation company, and managed a team of employees who refuse to follow instructions.
All before 8 a.m.
And the craziest part?
I don’t even get a report card.
No honor roll, perfect attendance award, not even a complimentary school lunch.
Just a cold cup of coffee, a kitchen that looks like a tornado came through, and the realization that I get to do it all over again tomorrow.
I’m starting to think that if I have to wake up this early, pack all these lunches, and participate in this much school-related activity, somebody ought to hand me a diploma at the end of the year.
Preferably with honors.
Because at this point, I’m not just a school mom.
I’m an unpaid, overworked, emotionally exhausted honorary student with a chauffeur’s license.
P.S. To the people who decided school should start this early: I just want to talk. 😂
Two Dogs, Zero Help, and a Whole Lot of Chaos
AND DID I MENTION THE TWO DOGS?!
Because apparently, they also attend this school.
Neither one pays tuition, but both expect breakfast, bathroom breaks, and personalized attention before 7 a.m.
One is standing at the door begging to go outside.
The other is barking at absolutely nothing.
I let them out.
They want back in.
I let them in.
They want back out.
And naturally, one of them waits until we’re already running late to decide it’s the perfect time to take a leisurely 15-minute stroll around the yard and refuses to come back in.
SIR, WE DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR YOU TO INSPECT EVERY BLADE OF GRASS.
Meanwhile, I’m yelling for someone to find their shoes, someone else is crying about their hair, and a dog is drinking milk out of the cereal bowls on the kitchen table.
At this point, I’m responsible for getting six children and two dogs through their morning routines.
EIGHT DEPENDENTS. ZERO COOPERATING EMPLOYEES.
And somehow, I’m the only one who knows what time school starts. (I mean they did change it on us this year.)
Sincerely,
A mother who isn’t enrolled but desperately needed this fall break! Thank you!
