It’s a New Year… so there has to be new goals right?!
Goals lead us to where we want to go.
Communicating those goals help.
Words help us communicate.
The One little word movement is catching on since Ali Edwards coined it in 2006.

A single word can be a powerful thing. – Ali Edwards
Last year my word was bliss.
In the past I’ve held onto words like slow, more, create, less, thrive, move and this year HOME is what HE (the Good Lord) is wanting to grow in me. Learning how to redefine the definition of HOME in my heart is His goal and for me to learn that HOME isn’t what I think it is but it’s so much more.
How can one little word have so many meanings?
HOME seems pretty simple to define… right?!
But I think that exploring a single word all year can have profound impact on a soul. What I’ve come to know about HOME isn’t all that great, but I feel God leading me to discover new territory here and to clean up the landscape of the former.
What does HOME look like physical, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, personally… I feel there are so many things HE wants to teach me this year.
How did you find your word?
It may seem like a random choice of the word I choose this year, but I’ve seen signs over and over for my word. I bet if you start recalling the past month you will have encountered your word too. But it also very well may be that you need a little help in discovering your word if you don’t have one yet.
Dayspring has created a little quiz to help you figure out what word word fit with your direction for the year. Find Your Word Of The Year For 2019! Take The Quiz Now!
After discovering my Word it was hitting me in the face everywhere I looked! There was no hiding from it. It shows up on my coffee mug, Christmas presents, talking to strangers, the checkout at Walmart… it’s like come on Lord, okay I get it!!! LOL Isn’t that how HE often works, we think one thing while HE is screaming alone and we can’t see it… because we aren’t looking. Maybe it’s that we don’t want to actually do that soul changing work… that sounds about right.
Journaling My Word
Creating is good for my soul. So I sat down the other night to play. Then I grabbed my new CSB (in)courage Devotional Bible that I got from Dayspring during their Christmas Sale. It’s a beautiful bible filled with room to journal and has a ton of devotionals. I went to the back where they are indexed and grouped and found a reading plan on “Everyday Leadership”
Day 1
Passage John 13 “The Secret to Reaching Hearts” By Sally Clarkson p 1506
And there He spoke to me about one definition I have of HOME that I need to replace, repair, mend, and call HIM more into the middle of. Sally’s words in this devo were heartbreaking, inspiring and healing. Thinking about my role as a mother and how that role relates to HOME. My desires of offering a HOME to my children and being HOME to them as well, all mixed with my past experience of my childhood home… there is work to be done.
If you are looking for a devotional Bible I highly recommend this one!

I’m excited and a frankly a little scared to see how I will grow this year in the rethinking of the word HOME.
Do you already know your word? If so I’d love to hear about it! And if you don’t remember you can take the quiz over at Dayspring to help find your Word of the Year!

My word for the year is “fearless”. There are also two books (at least) out about choosing one word for the year, one by a pastor who encourages his whole congregation to pick a word. I believe they are both titled One Word.
Oh I’ll have to go look that up! Thanks! And I like fearless!
