At the beginning of the week I convinced Pastor Mark to let me order 40lbs of Honeycrisp Apples through BountifulBaskets.org. He agreed and I eagerly placed the order. He actually thought we should order 80lbs but that just wasn’t in the budget. Now I’m kicking myself for not making it work because these apples are amazing. I’m pretty sure I have eaten 5 of them by myself today.
Pick apples are apart of our family’s {Fall Bucket List} and when we put it on the list I didn’t think this is how we would pick them. But I got these delicious gems for .80 cents a pound when walmart had them for $2.47 a pound this week. Can we say a steal! Also I thought we would make some apple butter but instead we will make some applesauce instead. Here is how I did it:
They started out in a box. After using my Pampered Chef Serrated Peeler on 4 yummy apples… they ended up in the slowcooker!
Let’s gather the ingredients:
4 Honeycrisp Apples (any apple will work) cored and quartered
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
1/2 Cup Apple Juice
1/2 Cup Water
2 Tbs Cinnamon
Place all of these in the slowcooker on high, cook for 5 hours.
After 5 hours they will be mushy and you can mash them for chunky or blend them for a thinner texture.
That’s it! See I told you I like simple.
This recipe doesn’t have any extra sugar added. It isn’t super sweet or super cinnamon-y… It was just right!
It also fits in a quart size jar to store. Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks or freeze and thaw and enjoy whenever you want.
Happy Applesauce Making Y’all!
