Wow I got this book over a year and a half ago and just now am I able to sit down and dive into it. The Aroma of Worship: A 14 Day Journey With Your Essential Oils and Your Bible takes a Biblical look at essential oils. Um, Oils AND Bible Study, yep that’s totally my JAM, and if you are reading this, it’s probably pretty interesting to you as well.
God made senses and God made oil, can I get an amen?!

22Then the Lord said to Moses, 23“Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels
of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels
of fragrant calamus, 24500 shekels of cassia—all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin
of olive oil. 25Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. 26Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, 27the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, 28the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. 29You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy. 30“Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. 31Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. 32Do not pour it on anyone elseʼs body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. 33Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.’ ”
– Exodus 30:22-33
And since I happen to have those oils (the Oils of Ancient Scripture™ Collection and Cinnamon Bark) I am diffusing it during my morning time study!

Here is what I first take away from the scriptures:
– The Lord said
– mentions them as the finest spices
– He tells us to anoint certain things (things involved in worship)
– and He says to do this so that “they may be most holy” and “whatever touches them will become holy”
– “You shall say to the people” holy anointing oil throughout your generations (so I would say the generations are still going)
– It shall NOT be poured on the body of an ordinary person (be aware of their heart?)
– You shall make no other composition like it (meaning it should be used for worship?)
– “It is holy and it shall be holy to you”
The above takeaways are interesting to me. There is a small part (because I like modern day luxuries) of me who wishes I could experience this holy atoning oil in person from back in the day. I’m sure when we get to heaven we will. But how cool is it that we have the oils used then even today!
Two years ago at Easter I shared with our church the Oils of the Bible and we all passed them around. As everyone was smelling and enjoying the oils, people began to read the bottles and the names of the oils and make the connection that we were smelling what Jesus must have smelled like! It was such a cool experience! The gift of smell is amazing and so are the oils themselves! They not only smell good but they have functions and support our body! I can’t wait to read more of this book!
