I don’t know about you, but there have been seasons in my life when I didn’t even know what to pray.
Times when my heart was heavy, my mind was overwhelmed, and I couldn’t seem to find the right words.
And then there are the ordinary days. The mornings when I’m already tired before the day has even started. The moments when life feels like a hundred different things pulling me in every direction. The times when I just need a little patience, a little peace, or the strength to get through the next hour.
I’ve learned that prayer doesn’t have to be something complicated. It doesn’t require a quiet house, a beautiful journal, or thirty uninterrupted minutes with my Bible open.
Sometimes prayer happens over a cup of coffee. Sometimes it’s whispered while folding laundry, driving down the road, or standing in the kitchen wondering how I’m going to get everything done.
And sometimes it’s simply, “Lord, I need You.”
I think we forget that God wants to hear from us in those moments, too. Not just when we have something big to ask for or when life feels like it’s falling apart, but in the little, everyday moments that make up our lives.
Prayer isn’t just something we turn to when life gets hard. It’s how we invite God into the life we’re living.
And the more we talk to Him, the more we learn to recognize His presence, even in the most ordinary places.
“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Prayer is extremely important and often is something we over look.
Keeping a prayer journal doesn’t have to be hard.
Read my post on How to create a Prayer Journal for free here.
I think that keeping a small sheet of paper with prayers on it has been effective for me. I can see if I’ve done it or not (not trying to remember with everything going on), and I can keep the sheets and collect them to make a journal to review how God has moved in my life.
Any notebook will do, any piece of paper is worthy of the task!
I have even created a prayer sheet to help you in getting your prayers down on paper quicker and I want you to have it for free!

Here is a list of items/options you can write in your prayer journal to pray over:
- Write out your complete prayers, like work for word. Sometimes writing them helps you narrow down what you want to say.
- Write down the people, ministries, events you are praying for. Spouse, children, parents, ministry leaders, government officials, new families at church, your friends, even your enemies!
- Worship lyrics that are currently speaking to you, you know those ones that you play on repeat or when they come on in the car you sing to the top of your lungs. Even better when they are included in this week’s worship set!
- Praises for Answered Prayers
- Scriptures that come to mind, ones you want to memorize or reference back to.
- Salvations that need a VICTORY!
Want a little help getting started?
I’ve created a free prayer-journaling resource to help you take that first step. Nothing complicated or overwhelming. Just a simple place to begin talking with God, writing down what’s on your heart, and making prayer part of your everyday life.
Because sometimes the hardest part is simply getting started. And I’d love to help you do that.
