Homeschool Mama Confession, How I Do It
Hey friends! I want to tell you about how I’ve have managed to homeschool for the past 7 years. If you would have asked me if I ever thought I would homeschool my kids, I would have laughed in your face. #sorrynotsorry But that’s the honest truth!
I never saw myself as a mom of 5 kiddos, and certainly never imagined I would be homeschooling them! But thankful a little nugget of truth came along when my oldest was very young (4 to be exact) and we found ourselves starting our homeschool journey.
The one consistent thing in our life since 2011, other than Jesus, is how we have homeschooled.
Classical Conversations has been our saving grace!
Early on I had a friend at church speak truth into my life, that I was able and capable of teaching my baby girl. I don’t know about you, but after you have kids, many MANY things change. How we make decisions is a big one! We went to a Classical Conversations Practicum and the rest is history! And yes I said we, my husband came with me, it’s important that you get the support of your spouse!
Classical Conversations Practicum is a free Parent Practicum and they are happening all of the US. Click HERE to find a free Parent Practicum near you.
After Practicum we came home but didn’t have a community/campus in the town we were living at the time and choose to do Classical Conversations at the house with my Foundations Guide and host some info meeting to get the word out. Little did we know God would move us later that year.
I didn’t used to think about things like moving, enrolling kids in school and school districts, but being in the ministry and relocating often, I realized homeschooling our kids would be necessary. The new town we were moving to was starting a new Classical Conversations (CC) campus.
Our oldest daughter Emma would have been in 8 different schools by now if we choose to go the public school route. That adds a lot of anxiety reading it, much less being a kid shuffled through that many schools. We have been blessed to have Classical Conversations in every area we have lived. We have done CC in 3 states at 4 different campuses.
Sure my kids have moved a lot, sure they have attended different campuses, but they know what their teacher (their MOM) expects and wants out of them, they know who their classmates are (their siblings) and they know what their curriculum is going to be used (the Foundations & Essentials Guides.) Of course we will move onto Challenge and these kiddos will graduate high school and move on, BUT until then I won’t be missing out on their childhood.
As I sat through the first day of the Parent Practicum for the 2018-2019 Homeschool Year and realized I’m starting my 8th year of Classical Conversations, I’m so very thankful for the opportunity to homeschool my kids and the classical instruction and foundation that Classical Conversations gives us! We are starting our 4 yo son in Foundations this year, so thats three in Foundations and our 2 older girls will both be in Essentials! I’m excited to start our new school year even though school just ended.

You are definitely a super mom! I think it is great that you are able to homeschool. I am a work outside the home mom and it always seems like I have to do both but nothing is at 100%. As time goes on being a M.O.M. (mother of multiples) gets easier! Thanks for the encouraging post. You’re an awesome mom Ashley!
